How to Test a Revel Fridge Thermostat

The defrost thermostat in your Revel fridge controls the defrosting process in your refrigerator and freezer. Although abnormal refrigerator temperatures could be the result of a bad thermostat, that's not always the case. You'll have to test the thermostat to be sure. Testing a Revel refrigerator thermostat requires a multimeter, which determines the condition of the thermostat by showing whether it has continuity. After cooling your thermostat, you can test it.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the thermostat inside the refrigerator. A Revel refrigerator thermostat is inside the access panel, hooked onto a tube. The access panel is a small- to medium-size panel that is usually screwed onto the rear of the refrigerator or inside the freezer.

    • 2

Lift the thermostat off the tube. Disconnect the thermostat.

    • 3

Turn the dial on your multimeter to “Ohms of Resistance.” Select the lowest resistance setting, which is usually "R X 1."

    • 4

Cool your thermostat. Repair Clinic suggests keeping the thermostat in ice water for up to two minutes. You may also keep it under a bed of ice for the same amount of time. Keep the ends of the wires out of the ice and water.

Place the black multimeter probe onto the end of one wire, and place the red probe onto the end of the other. Your multimeter will immediately show a number. If that number is not zero, the thermostat has no continuity and will not work.
