How to Fix the No Water Flow of a Maytag Refrigerator

A Maytag refrigerator without proper water flow cannot supply water to the water dispenser and is unable to regulate the temperature of the refrigerator's interior. Rather than replace the entire refrigerator or call for professional maintenance, the refrigerator's water issue is fixable by checking the water line on the back of the fridge. The water supply's shutoff valve is a small tool attached to the water line, and controls the flow of water from the water supply to the refrigerator. An accidental change to the shutoff valve disables the water flow, and results in air buildup, spoiled food and internal damage, if left unfixed.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the refrigerator's power cord from your wall's outlet and turn the refrigerator counterclockwise by 90 degrees to view its backing.

    • 2

Locate the water supply line on the refrigerator's back, and twist the shutoff valve's handle to the left to open the valve all the way. A closed or partially open valve prevents proper water flow.

    • 3

Straighten out kinks in the water line to ensure water is able to properly flow through to the refrigerator.

    • 4

Plug the refrigerator's power cord into the outlet and turn the refrigerator clockwise by 90 degrees.

    • 5

Open the refrigerator's right door and check the fridge's water filter cartridge. The cartridge must be open securely for the water to flow through the filter and to the water dispenser. Replace the cartridge by turning it counterclockwise and placing a new cartridge on the holder and turning it clockwise. A clogged cartridge affects water flow, and requires a new cartrdige to restore water flow.

    • 6

Push the water dispenser and hold it until water pours out of the dispenser. Trapped air prevents water from pushing through the refrigerator's water line, and requires manually pushing the dispenser to cycle the air out.
