Set a level above the refrigerator door. On a side-by-side unit, center the level above both doors, then place the level on each side to determine evenness from back to front. If it is not level, determine which door is not level and if one side of the door is too high or too low.
Remove the bottom grille by hand. Open the refrigerator and freezer doors.
Locate the leveling screws or height adjustment bolt on the refrigerator. On many models, they are on the roller assembly at the base of the fridge. On counter-depth models, the adjustment bolt is often at the bottom hinge of the refrigerator door.
Turn the leveling screw with a hex socket, or turn the adjustment bolt with an adjustable wrench. Turn the screw or bolt clockwise one-turn to raise the refrigerator or freezer door, or counterclockwise one-turn to lower the door.
Close the door after each turn to check the adjustment. Set the level above the doors to check if they are even. Repeat the procedure if necessary to adjust doors that are still hanging incorrectly.
