My Magic Chef Refrigerator Is Stuck in Defrost Mode

The Manual Chef refrigerator is a miniature home appliance that provides limited storage space for frozen and refrigerated items and has a manual defrost mode for maintenance purposes. The manual defrost feature melts ice buildup and requires manually resetting the refrigerator's thermostat to restore the appliance's cooling function. A stuck defrost feature is often caused by an improperly sealed door and restricts use of the refrigerator until the door seal and thermostat are properly configured or sealed.
  1. Thermostat

    • Once the refrigerator has completely defrosted the thermostat must be reset to the default number on the thermostat's dial. The default setting on the dial is level 3 and is the ideal setting for maintaining your refrigerator's temperature without causing the food to develop icicles or spoil due to a low temperature.

    Duration

    • The Magic Chef refrigerator's freezer compartment requires a minimum of four hours to cool down to its default temperature once the thermostat dial is reconfigured for normal freezer use. Make sure the freezer's compartment door is closed once the temperature is set back to level 3 to ensure the freezer builds up moisture and ice necessary for cooling.

    Time Delay

    • Unplugging the refrigerator's power cord while defrosting is recommended to avoid electric shock and requires waiting at least 3 minutes before plugging it back in to reset the appliance. The refrigerator has a time delay control that prevents the appliance from receiving power if the power cord is removed and reinserted.

    Electricity Issues

    • An issue with your power outlet affects the refrigerator's ability to exit defrost mode and properly cool the freezer compartment. Check your home's circuit breaker or fuse box for power outages, as this can prevent operation of your refrigerator. The circuit breaker is easily reset by flipping the power switch from the off to the on position, while the fuse box requires a replacement fuse to restore power. The blown fuse is typically hot to the touch and appears black in the glass area of the fuse when it is no longer usable.
