How to Install an Inline Water Line on a Whirlpool Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Minerals and chemicals in your home's tap water can alter the taste of your refrigerator's water and ice, but unfiltered water is a thing of the past with an inline water filter. Whirlpool's inline water filter for its side-by-side refrigerator model provides filtered water and ice and is easy to install, offering you up to six months of clean water per filter. A working water supply line is required to provide water to the refrigerator and is easy to add with an installation kit. Once installed, the water supply line connects to the back of the refrigerator and provides clean-tasting water and ice within 24 hours of setup.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the refrigerator from its power source and move it away from the wall to access the back.

    • 2

Connect the copper tubing for the inline water line to the refrigerator's water valve. The water valve is attached to the back of the refrigerator and acts as a connector between the water line and the refrigerator's water inlet. The copper tubing is available at your local hardware store as part of a refrigerator installation kit that includes a shutoff valve.

    • 3

Place a compression nut over the nut at the bottom of the water valve and turn the compression nut counterclockwise to reinforce the line's connection.

    • 4

Push the ends of the tube clamp together to open its teeth and place the tube clamp over the copper tubing.

    • 5

Turn the water shutoff valve a half-turn clockwise to secure the refrigerator connection. Move the refrigerator back against the wall and plug it in to restore electricity to the appliance.
