Open the freezer drawer and remove food items stored in front of the freezer's air vents. The vents need an unobstructed path to provide airflow, which maintains the temperature in the freezer.
Reduce the amount of food stored in the freezer. A reduction of free space in the freezer decreases airflow and increases the time necessary to maintain a cool temperature. Recently added items that are room temperature also cause the motor to work harder to regulate the freezer's temperature.
Limit the number of times the drawer is opened. Cool air escapes the freezer drawer and warm air makes its way into the drawer while opened, which results in raised temperatures in the drawer. The freezer runs its motor to lower the temperature to its configured cool setting, and this creates a buzzing noise while the motor is active.
Lower the temperature inside your home. The motor runs 80 percent of the time when the room temperature is between 72 and 74 degrees Fahrenheit. The running time increases when the temperature is set higher.
