How to Thaw LG Refrigerator Water Dispenser Lines

On some LG models with side-by-side refrigerators installed, the lines for the water dispenser travel close to the freezer compartment. This can sometimes result in frozen water lines and a broken water dispenser. The best way to thaw LG refrigerator water lines is the old fashioned way: unplug and wait. But there is a trick you can do with nothing more than a bit of yard trimmer line that can help keep your water line from freezing up again.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up the LG refrigerator and freezer compartments. Remove any perishables from inside and store them in another appliance to prevent spoilage.

    • 2

Turn off the power to the refrigerator. If you cannot reach the plug, turn off the circuit for the refrigerator at the main circuit breaker.

    • 3

Place a towel underneath the water dispenser.

    • 4

Let the refrigerator thaw out for about two or three hours. This will depend on how thick the ice is inside the dispenser line.

    • 5

Check that the blockage has cleared by restoring the power to the refrigerator and testing the dispenser. If the line still hasn't unblocked, turn off the power and allow the refrigerator more time to thaw.

Prevent further freezing by cutting a seven- to eight-inch length off a weed trimmer line. Insert the line into the water dispenser nozzle. When the line freezes, slowly pull the trimmer line out of the nozzle, along with the blockage.
