How to Replace a Kenmore Refrigerator Tubing Kit

Slide the refrigerator forward until you can unplug the power cord. Slide if farther forward to turn off the refrigerator’s water supply. Use your fingers to unscrew the connector holding the water supply line to the inlet valve along the bottom of the refrigerator.

Roll the refrigerator away from the wall until you can fit behind it comfortably. Unscrew the hex-head screws that hold the cardboard panel to the back of the refrigerator, using a 1/4-inch nut driver. Carefully pull off the cardboard panel and set it aside to access the inlet valve.

Look along the bottom of the inlet valve bracket for the two hex-head screws holding the valve to the body of the refrigerator. Remove the screws and carefully remove the valve.

Grab the harness connecting the two wires to the side of the inlet valve. Wiggle the harness off the valve.

Unscrew the connector holding the original water tubing to the valve. Pull the tubing from the plastic clamps that hold it to the rear of the refrigerator.

Follow the tubing up the back of the refrigerator to the ice maker's fill tube. Grab the two ends of the small metal clamp holding the tubing to the fill tube. Slide the clamp down the original tubing. Pull the tubing off the end of the fill tube.

Stretch out the original tubing against the replacement tubing that came with the tubing kit. Cut the replacement tubing to match the length of the original tubing, using utility shears.

Pull the connector from the original tubing and slide it over the replacement tubing. Ensure the connector’s threads face the cut end of the replacement tubing.

Insert the metal support sleeves that came with the tubing kit into the cut ends of the replacement tubing. Push the sleeves into the tube until the ends of the sleeves become flush with the cut ends of the tubing.

Push the end of the replacement tubing into the inlet valve. Secure the tubing to the valve by twisting the connector onto the valve threads.

Snap the replacement tubing into the plastic clamps along the back of the refrigerator. Slide the metal clamp off the original tubing and onto the replacement tubing. Push the end of the replacement tubing into the end of the fill tube. Squeeze the two ends of the clamp together and slide it over the end of the fill tube to secure the tubing.

Plug the wire harness into the inlet valve. Secure the inlet valve inside the refrigerator, using the hex-head screws you removed previously.

Replace the cardboard panel onto the back of the refrigerator. Secure it with the hex-head screws.

Reconnect the refrigerator water line to the inlet valve. Plug the refrigerator back into the wall and push it back into its original position.
