How to Replace the Filter Housing on a Frigidaire FRS26ZRF

The filter housing inside your Frigidaire refrigerator model FRS26ZRF holds the filter and helps keep minerals from reaching your ice maker and drinking water. Water enters the filter housing, runs through the filter and exits to a reservoir tank inside the fresh food compartment before dispensing from the freezer door or filling the ice tray. If you notice water leaking from around the filter housing, or the housing appears to have a crack, replace it with a new housing to avoid further damage to the appliance.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the ice maker inside the Frigidaire freezer by lifting the feeler arm. This keeps the water from turning on accidentally while you disconnect the filter.

    • 2

Remove the items stored on the top shelf of your refrigerator. Remove the shelf, if applicable.

    • 3

Look for the filter housing cover to the top right of the filter. Insert a 1/4-inch nut driver in the hole along the bottom of the cover. Turn the housing cover screw counterclockwise to release the housing cover and remove it from the refrigerator.

    • 4

Remove the hex-head screws from the right and left sides of the filter. Pull the water lines from behind the cover in the rear corner of the compartment as you pull the filter housing toward the front of the refrigerator.

    • 5

Note the location of the two water lines connected to the top of the housing. Slide a flat-head screwdriver between the top of the housing and the bottom of the water line connectors. Twist the screwdriver blade to pry the connectors off the housing.

    • 6

Install the water lines on the top of the replacement housing. Make sure to place the lines in their original positions. Push down on the connectors until they snap in place.

    • 7

Push the water lines back behind the cover in the corner of the refrigerator. Attach the top of the replacement filter housing to the back wall of the compartment with the screws that held the original housing.

    • 8

Unscrew the bottom housing cup from the top of the original housing. Pull the filter from the original housing. Push the filter from the original housing into the top of the replacement housing if the filter does not appear clogged. Install a new filter, if applicable. Install the new housing cup over the bottom of the filter and twist it clockwise to secure the cup to the top of the housing.

    • 9

Slide the filter housing cover over the replacement housing. Secure the cover to the top of the refrigerator with the housing cover screw.

    • 10

Turn the ice maker back on by lowering the feeler arm.
