These refrigerators offer several features including a water dispenser and an automatic ice maker. The ice maker is a relatively simple component, and will usually last many years. However, there still may come a time when it will fail and require replacement.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the ice maker water supply by turning the valve clockwise at the water supply. Pull the Maytag refrigerator away from the wall and pull the plug from the electrical outlet to turn off the power to the appliance.

    • 2

Remove the ice bin from the freezer compartment by lifting up on the front of the unit and pulling it out. Some units may require that you remove several screws using the Phillips screwdriver in order to remove the bin. If you are unable to simply lift and remove the bin, then you must use the screwdriver to do so.

Locate the wiring harness at the back of the ice maker. Squeeze the locking tabs on each side of the plug and disconnect the ice maker. Remove the hexagon screws securing the ice maker to the freezer wall using a ¼-inch nut driver. There are three screws in all: two at the top of the ice maker and one below it.

Pull the ice maker unit from the freezer and set it aside. Place the new unit in the freezer cabinet and slide it into place. Secure the unit to the freezer by tightening the three hex screws with a ¼-inch nut driver. Plug the wiring harness into the ice maker unit.
