Instructions

    • 1

Remove any throw rugs or carpeting from the area in front of the refrigerator, and from the path you normally take through the kitchen to the refrigerator. Walking across carpet tends to build up static electricity, especially in the winter months.

    • 2

Replace the rubber strips inside the refrigerator door if they are worn or torn. Contact the refrigerator manufacturer to order new rubber strips, and install them according to the instructions on the package.

    • 3

Use adhesive anti-static tape on the exterior of your refrigerator door. Touch that anti-static tape each time you approach the refrigerator to dissipate any built-up static electricity. This anti-static tape can help protect you from shock, and protect the refrigerator from damage.

Add a humidifier to your kitchen if static electricity is still a problem. Static electricity buildup tends to increase when the humidity in the air goes down. Increasing the amount of humidity in the air can reduce the amount of static electricity that builds up in your kitchen and around your refrigerator.
