How to Adjust a New Sears Refrigerator Thermostat

The temperature on new Kenmore refrigerators is adjusted using the control panel on the ice and water dispenser. The "Refrigerator" temperature control sets the overall temperature of both the freezer and the fresh food compartment, while the "Freezer" temperature control sets the flow of air from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. The proper temperature setting depends partly on the types of foods stored in the compartments, as well as personal preference. After setting a new temperature, you must allow up to 24 hours for the compartments to fully adjust to the settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the bar above the "Fridge Temp" button, which indicates the temperature level of the overall refrigerator. There are seven bars, and the more bars visible, the warmer the refrigerator.

    • 2

Press the "Fridge Temp" one time to increase the overall temperature of the refrigerator, if desired.

    • 3

Press the "Fridge Temp" several times, until there is one less bar shown, to decrease the overall temperature of the refrigerator.

    • 4

Wait 24 hours for the refrigerator to adjust to the new temperature setting.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 until the refrigerator is set to the desired temperature.

    • 6

Press the "Freezer Temp" button to adjust the temperature of the freezer compartment, following the same process used to adjust the refrigerator compartment. The "Freezer Temp" button adjusts the timing of the damper, which dictates how much cold air is contained in the freezer and how much is transferred to the fresh food compartment.
