How to Fix LG Freezer Ice Maker Problems

Occasionally, your LG freezer may not produce ice or might freeze ice too slowly. The ice may also taste funny or smell strange at times. These instances aren't entirely uncommon, but typically they don't happen often. If they do, however, many such problems can be easily fixed.

Instructions

    • 1

Move objects out of the way of the automatic shut-off arm located at the bottom of the freezer. This may be a solution if ice is not produced. Ensure that the automatic shut-off arm is not touched when the ice bucket is removed from and reinserted into the freezer.

    • 2

Verify that the freezer door is completely closed if the ice maker still doesn't produce ice or if it freezes ice too slowly. If you just hooked up the ice maker, wait 24 hours for ice to be produced.

    • 3

Press the "Freezer" control button until 0 degrees Fahrenheit is displayed. This may solve the problem if the ice maker still doesn't produce ice or if it freezes ice too slowly.

    • 4

Press the "Ice Plus" button and verify that the swirls graphic icon is displayed if you want to increase the unit's freezing and ice-making potential.

    • 5

Throw out a bad set of ice cubes if the color or flavor of the ice is distasteful. Discard ice that's been in the freezer for too long.

    • 6

Clean out the refrigerator and ice storage bin and then reseal foods more tightly in the freezer, if ice still smells or tastes bad. Sometimes the odors from frozen foods can transfer out into the air in the enclosed freezer area, and this often affects how ice tastes and smells.

    • 7

Change the filter if the ice maker still produces bad ice. Please refer to your product user manual for the precise steps on how to change the filter for your particular LG freezer model.

    • 8

Press the "Cube Size" select button to select a larger cube size if the ice cubes produced are too small.

    • 9

Contact a plumber to clear the water shut-off valve if your ice cubes continue to be too small.
