Leaks in the Freezer of a Maytag MSD245GEW

The Maytag MSD245GEW is a side-by-side refrigerator with all the typical offerings, such as adjustable bins and shelves, humidity-controlled crisper drawers, automatic ice maker and ice and water dispenser. If your refrigerator starts leaking from the freezer compartment, there are several things you can do to find the cause of the leak.
  1. Ice and Water Dispenser

    • The ice and water dispenser on the freezer door dispenses cubed or crushed ice as well as water. Some minor operational issues, such as water dripping from the chute, can cause water to leak from the dispenser. You can fix this by holding the container under the chute for two to three seconds after you finish dispensing water. Also, an ice cube caught in the chute can melt and leak water down the front of the freezer. Check the chute for ice, and push any cubes through the chute. Using the ice dispenser on a regular basis helps prevent this from happening.

    Spill Tray

    • The spill tray located under the dispenser catches water or ice cubes but does not have a separate drain, so any water that lands in the tray can build up and eventually spill over. Simply lift up and empty the tray when you notice the tray filling with water to prevent water leaks or spills.

    Frost

    • Frost may develop in the freezer compartment and melt, causing a leak, especially if the door is opened often or is not closed completely. Clean off the door gasket with a clean, damp cloth, and push any items away from the front of the freezer so they don't block the door. Leave the door closed for several hours after adding warm food to the freezer so that the temperature can stabilize. Condensation that develops due to temperature fluctuations can turn into frost that then melts and leaks.

    Water Line Leaks

    • Sometimes the water line that supplies the water to the refrigerator for the ice maker and water dispenser may become loose, causing water to leak. Look behind the refrigerator at where the water line connects to the water valve, and tighten the connection. Contact Maytag for help if the water line seems to be damaged or is leaking water from areas other than the connecting points; the water line may need servicing or replacement.
