Troubleshooting a Clogged Water Dispenser on a Kenmore Refrigerator

Having an ice and water dispenser right on the door of your refrigerator is a real convenience. When that water and ice dispenser is working properly, you do not even need to open the refrigerator door to get a cold drink. Unfortunately, these water dispensers are prone to a number of problems, and if you have one, it is best to use a step-by-step approach to troubleshooting and resolving any issues.

Instructions

Hold the "Door alarm" button down for three seconds to disengage the parental lock and allow you to operate the water dispenser. The parental lock prevents children from operating the unit.

    • 2

Close the refrigerator door and make sure it is shut tightly. The water dispenser is designed to work only when the door is securely shut.

    • 3

Clean the nozzle and switch on the water dispenser with a mixture of water and a mild detergent. Soda and other sugary liquids are often spilled into the area around the water dispenser, and that sugar can clog the nozzle and cause the dispenser to stop operating. Clean the nozzle to remove all traces of those spills.

    • 4

Move the dispenser arm back and forth -- it should move smoothly. If it does not, clean the entire arm assembly and the nozzle again, and then retry the water dispenser.

    • 5

Check the water valve under the sink to make sure it is turned on, and that the lines running from the sink to the refrigerator are not kinked or twisted. Straighten out any twisted lines, and then try the water dispenser again.
