How to Change the Gaskets on a GE French Door

If you own a General Electric refrigerator that has French doors, then there are two doors that open side by side from the top center of the refrigerator and a bottom freezer. The doors keep in air within the refrigerator using long, black rubber gaskets that line all sides of the door. You can replace the door gasket anytime, if the gasket becomes broken or torn.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door on your GE refrigerator and locate the gasket, which is the rubber pieces on all sides of the door.

    • 2

Move along the door and unsnap the white door cover next to the gasket. Set the cover aside.

    • 3

Push the door gasket back with your fingers to expose the gasket bracket clips.

    • 4

Insert a flathead screwdriver into each of the four clips and pry the clips off.

    • 5

Pull off the entire gasket from the door and set it aside.

    • 6

Place the new gasket into the same position as the old one, then snap the four bracket clips back into place.

    • 7

Place the door cover back over the edges of the gasket so it snaps into place. Close the refrigerator door.
