Removing a Frigidaire Icemaker

Function

• Icemakers installed in refrigerators and freezers use water valves, electric motors and heating units to produce ice. The ice making cycle is governed by a basic electrical circuit and a set of switches. An electromagnetic current, also known as a solenoid, is used to open the water valve, which allows enough water in to fill the ice mold. The water is then cooled down to form ice through the refrigerators cooling unit.

Preparation

• Move your Frigidaire refrigerator away from the wall and unplug it at the wall outlet before attempting to remove the ice maker. Most Frigidaire icemakers are attached to the refrigerator with two small screws affixed to the upper left side of the unit. These can be loosened with a suitably sized screwdriver. Some Frigidaire models also have a stainless steel bracket fitted beneath the icemaker for added resilience. Locate the screws on the steel bracket and remove with a screwdriver before attempting to take the icemaker out.

Removal

• Once the screws are removed, the icemaker can be lifted up out of its slot and away from the refrigerator. There should be a harness located at the rear base area of the icemaker. This should be unplugged when you have pulled the icemaker out far enough to make it visible.

Replacement Icemakers

• Frigidaire manufacture icemaker installation kits for consumers who have refrigerators with faulty icemakers or don't have this feature at all. The icemaker kit comes equipped with an ice bucket, icemaker, fittings to install the icemaker unit, and a water valve to channel water to the icemaker.
