My Samsung Refrigerator Ice Level Arm Is Stuck Up

Many Samsung refrigerators provide the convenience of built-in ice makers, which produce ice directly from the water supply to the refrigerator. As this ice forms, it drops into a bucket in the freezer for storage and, as that bucket fills, the ice level arm in the freezer pushes upward to automatically stop the ice production. If the ice level arm in a Samsung refrigerator gets stuck in the up position, the unit won’t make any more ice.
  1. Full Ice

    • If a Samsung refrigerator ice level arm works properly, the arm is pushed up as the ice bucket fills with ice. This lets the automatic ice maker know that the bucket is full and that no more ice should be made. Once the ice doesn’t sit at the top of the bucket, the arm should fall back down. If it doesn't and you can’t push it down, check inside the bucket to make sure that no pieces of ice have become lodged in the arm, which can prevent the arm from going back down.

    Misaligned Bucket

    • The ice bucket that goes with the ice maker in a Samsung refrigerator only fits into the unit in one direction. When you take the bucket out of the freezer for emptying or cleaning, you must place it back into the refrigerator so that it slides along the tracks and locks into place. When the bucket gets all the way back into its position, you should hear a clicking sound. If the bucket is not clicked fully into place, it may be in the way of the ice arm lowering.

    Ice Around Arm

    • Since the ice maker and water dispenser on a Samsung refrigerator sit near each other, jostling of the refrigerator may cause water to spill across the ice maker. This spillage can be caused by slamming the doors of the Samsung refrigerator or running into the refrigerator. When this happens, the water may turn to ice around components of the ice maker. If the arm won’t lower, check the hinge of the arm to make sure it has not frozen into place.

    Faulty Hinge

    • If there is nothing in the ice maker in the way of the ice level arm lowering and the ice maker is not full, the problem with the Samsung ice level arm may be a faulty hinge. If the hinge is old, some oil may loosen it up. If you want to apply some lubricant, remove everything from the freezer, including the ice bucket, before spraying the hinge, and then wipe away any excess oil before replacing the freezer items. If the ice level arm still won’t operate, it must be replaced or repaired by a qualified technician.
