Cycle through all of the bad water currently in the GE refrigerator's water dispensing system if it has a bad taste or smell. This usually happens if the dispenser has not been in use for a long time.
Wait 24 hours after initial installation or after a restart following a power failure if the first glass of water is not chilled. Also, if all of the water has been dispensed, wait at least half the day for the system to replenish and chill fresh water.
Check the shutoff valve if the GE refrigerator is not dispensing water. Many of the GSS25WGT models, including GSS25WGT-A, have a "saddle-type" shutoff valve. To get the flow of water going, you usually turn the saddle-type valve handle in the counterclockwise direction. Slowly maneuver the valve to determine the correct direction for the type of valve that is in use on your refrigerator.
Replace a clogged water filter cartridge if it is clogged. Some refrigerators have replacement indicator lights, but you should also try to keep a mental or written note to change the filter every six months. The user's manual provides instructions for the "SmartWater" or "Water by Culligan" brands of replacement filter. Follow the directions in the manual or on the filter's packaging.
Press and hold the water dispenser arm for a couple of minutes if there is air in the system.
Hold down the "Lock" button for three seconds to unlock the water dispenser.
Press the "Warmer" control setting for "Refrigerator" if the dispenser does not work but the ice maker does.
Contact a service technician if the water in the reservoir is frozen.
