How to Bypass Speed Controls on a Frigidaire Washer

Frigidaire's Affinity class of front-loading washers includes almost 20 models that slightly differ from one another, as of October 2011. Some major differences include the cubic feet capacity and the ability to generate steam within the machine. However, the speed at which the drum spins is important to many users, no matter the model. Spin speed can not only affect the amount of time your wet clothes need to spend in the dryer, but it can also influence your utility bill. Although much of the Frigidaire washer's function is based on automatic and programmed settings, you can override speed controls to meet your washing needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Add a load of laundry into the Frigidaire washer, and close the door. Add your washing products, such as detergent, to the dispenser.

    • 2

Select a default cycle as a starting point. Information for your chosen cycle will display via the lighted-indicators on the control panel. For example, turn the "Cycle Selector" knob toward the "Normal" setting, which provides 15 minutes of reverse-tumble washing action, as well as pretreating and fresh-water rinse functions on some Frigidaire washer models.

Find the "Spin Speed" button, which is located at the bottom-center of the control panel. Press the button to change the indicator to a different speed, bypassing the default speed that is programmed for the chosen cycle. Depending on your model, your choices may include "Max," "High," "Medium" and "Low." The "Normal" cycle is capable of using all speeds.

Press the "Start" button to begin the washing cycle, which will include changes that you made to bypass the default speed controls.
