A Frigidaire refrigerator's ice cubes may freeze together when they are old or the ice maker's dispenser isn't used often enough. The situation also occurs when the ice cubes are frozen on the outside but liquid on the inside. As the cubes sit in the bins, they can break apart, letting the water out. Then the water freezes in the bin, making the cubes stick together.
The water intake is the first factor to check when the ice maker freezes or the ice cubes indicate a problem. Hollow cubes can occur when not enough water gets to the unit. The water line must be connected to the water valve, and the water valve must be open completely. The water line also may have kinks or obstructions. The water filter could have blockages, too, and require replacement.
If enough water reaches the ice maker, then old ice probably is the problem's cause. Emptying the ice bin, cleaning it with dish-washing soap and putting the bin back into the freezer can be the solution. Give the ice maker 24 hours to produce ice cubes, and use it normally and regularly. The ice maker must be used at least twice each week for optimal performance.
If the problem persists, then the ice maker assembly may have a problem, which means replacing the assembly. Call Frigidaire's customer service, 1-800-374-4432 as of 2011, to order the assembly or to find a certified repair technician in your area. Frigidaire also sells the assembly for specific models through its website, Frigidaire.com. Frigidaire will uphold the unit's warranty or warranties only if a certified Frigidaire repair technician works on the unit.
