How to Oil a Refrigerator Door

Open your refrigerator and remove the food from the shelves on each door. Store that food somewhere cool to prevent frozen food from thawing and chilled food from spoiling during the project.

Inspect the door hinges for screws. If screws hold the hinge pin -- the point where the door pivots -- in place, remove the screws, and place them on a towel to prevent them from rolling away.

Place the narrow end of a flat-headed screwdriver under the flat head of the hinge pin, and gently move it upward, leaving the loosened hinge pin in place. If the screwdriver does not work under the hinge pin easily, maneuver the screwdriver's flat end underneath the head of the pin as much as possible and tap it gently with a hammer.

Spray silicone oil into the open areas of the hinge. Many oils are packaged in an applicator bottle; if your oil isn't, use a needle-nosed oil can to apply only a few drops of oil at a time.

Re-align the hinge, and slide the hinge pin back into place. Replace screws as necessary. Repeat the procedure on the refrigerator's other door hinges.
