How to Manually Test the Ice Maker on a GE Profile Electric Appliance

Many models of GE Profile refrigerators include ice makers that can dispense either crushed or cubed ice. The ice maker should be operational from the time that you purchase the refrigerator as long as you have hooked up the water line to the back of the refrigerator. You can test a GE Profile refrigerator's ice maker, but you first must make sure things are hooked up properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "On/Off" button on the ice maker so that it is turned to "On."

    • 2

Open the ice maker lid by sliding or flipping it upward.

    • 3

Reach inside the ice maker and make sure the wire shutoff arm is in the down position. The ice maker will not operate if this arm is up.

    • 4

Wait several hours for the ice maker to produce ice after it is first turned on. It will take approximately 24 hours for the ice maker to produce a significant amount of ice.

    • 5

Press the dispenser button on the front of the refrigerator to test if ice exits the chute. The ice maker will not dispense ice unless the door is closed.
