Troubleshooting a Frigidaire Ice Maker That Has Ice Forming Below

If you own a Frigidaire refrigerator with a built-in ice maker, you expect that appliance to provide a steady stream of ice for your parties and dinners. If you find that ice is forming in the storage bin and below the dispenser instead of inside the ice compartment, it is best to take a step-by-step approach to troubleshooting and resolving the problem. Since a number of things can cause ice to form in this location, it is a good idea to eliminate each potential problem one at a time.

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the ice storage bin by its front edge and pull it out of the ice maker. Examine the wire arm at the bottom of the ice maker for clumps of ice.

    • 2

Soak a cloth in warm water and clean the area around the wire arm thoroughly to melt the ice and remove any debris that could be interfering with ice production. Dry the wire arm and surrounding area with a clean cloth or paper towel.

    • 3

Break up any clumps of ice in the ice storage bin. Empty the storage bin and discard any clumped ice that cannot be broken up.

    • 4

Empty the ice storage bin every day to avoid a buildup of ice cubes. When the ice storage bin gets full, clumps of ice can form around and underneath the bin.
