How to Fix the Icemaker Flap on a Whirlpool Refrigerator

The flap on the door of your Whirlpool icemaker should move smoothly when you open and close it. If the door doesn't move freely or if it sticks in the open or closed position, you need to fix it as soon as possible. An obstruction could be preventing the door from opening and closing properly, or one of the pins holding the flapper door in place may have become disengaged from the assembly.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the Whirlpool refrigerator from the electrical outlet. Open the front door of the icemaker compartment.

    • 2

Check the flap to ensure both pins are firmly seated. The icemaker flap uses a spring-loaded pin system to hold the door in place. If either pin has popped out, the flap cannot operate properly.

    • 3

Push the flap door all the way to the left until the pin on the right disengages from the assembly. Lift the left pin out to remove the flap door completely.

    • 4

Insert either the left or right pin into the assembly and press into place. Push on the flap door until you can insert the pin in the other side of the assembly. Open and close the flap several times to make sure it's working properly.
