How to Repair a GE Profile Refrigerator Handle

The prominent position of the handle to your GE Profile refrigerator makes it susceptible to damage if the door is allowed to swing open and strike a wall, for instance. The handle's heavy use causes the screws holding it to the cabinet to work loose. Most repairs involve tightening the screws or installing a replacement handle. GE sells spare parts for many of its appliances through the company's website.

Locate the bolts holding the handle to the front of the refrigerator recessed inside narrow holes in the metal or attached to the top of the refrigerator door. You might have to look behind the handle to find the bolts on some models. Lift the handle firmly upward then forward to reveal the hardware.

Tighten the Allen wrench bolts at the top and bottom handle if it feels loose under your grip. Use a straight Allen wrench to reach down inside the holes in stainless steel models. A few clockwise turns ought to be enough to tighten the bolts.

Remove the bolts if the handle is damaged and needs replacing. Damaged trim can also be removed by unscrewing the necessary bolts. Line up the replacement handle or trim with the holes in the door and replace the bolts to secure.
