How to Adjust a GE Profile's Doors

When your GE Profile refrigerator freezer leaves the factory, the side-by-side or French style doors are set to level. Shipping, installation, moving and everyday wear and tear can, however, create a visible misalignment in the doors. GE's online knowledge base resource provides directions for adjusting the doors on all Profile refrigerator models manufactured since 2001. Just one or both doors can be raised or lowered slightly, as needed. This type of adjustment is considered a basic maintenance task and is easily completed by the owner.

Instructions

  1. Side-by-side Refrigerator Freezer Models

    • 1

Sit down or lay down on your side, in front of the refrigerator, with the doors in the closed position.

    • 2

Slot a 5/16-inch or 7/16-inch gap wrench into the adjustment hinge screw at the outside bottom corner of the door where the door connects to the refrigerator case frame.

    • 3

Turn the wrench to the right to raise the level of the door or to the left to lower the height of the door. Make one or two turns at a time and check the alignment before proceeding.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 until the doors are adjusted back to level.

French Door With Freezer on the Bottom Models

    • 5

Open the upper French doors wide and kneel down in front of the refrigerator to access the hinges at the underside of the outside corner of each door.

    • 6

Use a 1/4-inch gap wrench to turn the hinge nut one to two turns. Turn to the right to raise the level of the door and to the left to lower the level of the door.

    • 7

Test the door operation by opening and closing it and then check the alignment for level along the top edge of the doors.

    • 8

Repeat the incremental adjustment process until the doors are level.
