How to Repair the Door Gasket on a Sears Refrigerator

The gasket, which is made of rubber, is compressed by the refrigerator door, forming an airtight seal. As the refrigerator ages, the rubber in the gasket may break down or become damaged, at which point you must replace it.   Align the new gasket with the door channel then press it into the channel so that the indentation on the rear of the gasket fits into the channel.

  Work your way around the entire door, pressing the gasket firmly into the channel until it is fully secured in place.

  Turn a hair dryer onto the lowest heat setting and heat up any portions of the gasket that do not securely sit into the channel. Heating the gasket makes the rubber more pliable, allowing it to fit easily into the channel.
