Refrigerators, such as a GE GSS-series model, are designed to run nonstop. Because they are constantly working, it is surprising that most manage to hold up so well. However, problems do arise from time to time. Before you call a professional, learn the quick ways to inspect the fridge and troubleshoot the problem.

  Check the power cable at the rear of the fridge to ensure it is properly plugged in.

  Locate the main breaker panel in your home and reset the breaker the fridge circuit runs to. This may reset and fix fridge power issues if the breaker was tripped.

  Open the fridge door and check the temperature adjustment knob at the back of the fridge. If it is set too low, it could be the reason you are experiencing high temperatures in the fridge.

  Check the gasket, the rubber trim around the fridge door. If it is frayed or disconnected from the door, the seal could be broken, and heat could be escaping from the fridge. Pop a bad door gasket off with the tip of a flat-head screwdriver, then remove the screws holding it in place to remove the gasket entirely. Replace the gasket with a new one.

  Pop the bottom panel off the front of the refrigerator to expose the refrigerator coils. These metal components must be kept clean to properly funnel coolant through the fridge system. Dust the coils with a duster. If you don't have a duster, vacuum underneath the coils. Replace the panel when finished.
