My Frigidaire Ice Maker Does Not Fill & There is No Water in the Tube Leading to It

Most modern Frigidaire refrigerators are manufactured with an icemaker in the freezer compartment. This simple system allows the appliance to tap into the house's water supply to provide a constant flow of ice cubes. However, at times, a problem can occur and water does not make it up to the point at which the icemaker can use it. In this case, a basic troubleshooting approach should lead to a simple solution without needing to call a repairman. Begin the troubleshooting process by checking the water supply.
  1. Supply

    • When a Frigidaire icemaker does not fill and there is no water in the tube leading to it, it means water is not making it from the house supply to the refrigerator. The first thing to check is that the water valve is open. If not, the result is the same as if you turned off a spigot in the sink: no water flow and no ice. It's possible the valve was accidentally turned off and someone forgot to turn it back on. In any event, this fix could be as easy as opening the valve.

    Valve

    • Besides being closed, the water valve could have a few other issues that could prevent the icemaker from filling. Check to see that the feed line from the valve to the fridge is a ¼-inch line. Some valves have smaller openings, which will prevent the Frigidaire icemaker from working properly. Additionally, over time the filter inside the valve can become clogged with minerals and sediment from the water. Replacing or cleaning it might be all that is necessary to get the water flowing again.

    Coil

    • Inside the water supply valve is a solenoid coil, which controls the plunger valve that opens and closes to allow water into the icemaker through the use of a magnetic field. If the coil develops a break, the magnetic flow is interrupted and the plunger valve ceases to work. You can inspect the coil by disassembling the valve, though make sure you have closed off the water supply into the valve first. If not, the result will be a continuous spray into the house.

    Considerations

    • Keep in mind that the icemaker temperature must be set to at least 5 degrees Fahrenheit or colder to work properly. A simple readjusting of the temperature dial might jump-start the ice making process again. When it comes to do-it-yourself repairs, a toothbrush can be handy to clean out an old filter screen, and a volt-meter is necessary to test the solenoid coil.
