How to Fix a Maytag Side-by-Side Water Leak

Improper setup or maintenance of your Maytag side-by-side refrigerator leads to water leaks from the water supply line or the water dispenser, as all connections require a secure fit to maintain performance. Water leaks from the water dispenser occur when a new cartridge is installed due to the cartridge's initial water level, which gradually clears out as the water dispenser is used. A continuous leak indicates a problem with the refrigerator rather than with the individual components, and requires professional repair to troubleshoot the issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the refrigerator from its nearby power source and carefully turn the refrigerator around to have its back facing you.

    • 2

Locate the water supply line on the back of the refrigerator, and turn the nut in the middle of the water line clockwise to tighten its connection.

    • 3

Tighten the nut clockwise with a wrench once you can no longer turn it using your fingers.

    • 4

Push the refrigerator back into place and plug it back into the power source. Push an empty cup against the water dispenser for five seconds to cycle through the refrigerator's water filter.

    • 5

Pour the cup's water into a nearby sink and push the cup against the water dispenser once more for five seconds to continue flushing the filter. Continue dispensing the water into the cup and pouring it out until 12 liters of water is dispensed from the refrigerator.
