Frigidaire Elements Refrigerator Is Not Freezing

A Frigidaire Elements refrigerator has a thermostat that sets the temperature of the fridge. The compressor turns on when the temperature is too warm inside the freezer or refrigerator. A defrost timer in conjunction with the thermostat determines when the compressor needs to turn off. Faulty parts or dirty refrigerator components may cause the freezer to run too warm to freeze everything properly. A thorough troubleshooting of your Frigidaire Elements fridge will reveal the problem.
  1. Thermostat

    • Before troubleshooting any other component of the fridge, check that the thermostat it at the correct temperature. A thermostat that is too low will not turn on the compressor at a regular interval. Also, check the vents at the side of the freezer and make sure they are not covered by food or other items. This will prevent cold air from entering the freezer.

    Condenser Coils

    • The condenser coils at the back of your Frigidaire are connected to the compressor. The coils release heat that is removed from the freezer into the air. If the coils are restricted in any way, the coils will not release heat from the fridge. Vacuum the coils with a soft vacuum attachment to remove any built-up dust. Pull the fridge out from the wall and observe the fan near the condenser when the condenser kicks on. A fan that does not move will not allow proper heat distribution throughout the condenser system.

    Door Seal and Drain Tube

    • The plastic gasket around the freezer door creates an air-tight seal, holding the cool air inside. If the gasket is cracked or falling apart, it will not hold in the cold air and the freezer will have problems maintaining temperature. Remove the screws from behind the rubber gasket and pull it off the unit. New gaskets are available from Frigidaire. A drain tube at the back of the freezer may also cause problems. If it is clogged, it may cause too much ice build up, which makes it harder for your freezer to maintain temperature. Remove the back panel from the freezer using a screwdriver and remove the clog in the drain tube with a wire.

    Refrigerant Leak

    • Refrigerant is used in the compressor to create the cool air used in your freezer. Refrigerant levels need to be near full for the fridge to maintain temperature. A refrigerant leak not only prevents your unit from working properly; it is also dangerous. Call a service professional if you suspect a refrigerant leak.
