My GE Profile Arctica Stopped Making Ice

The GE Profile Arctica is a side-by-side refrigerator, which has a door for the refrigerator on the right side and a door for the freezer on the left side. As you use your GE Profile appliance, you may encounter problems with its performance on either side. If your ice maker stops making ice, you can troubleshoot this problem to determine its cause on your own. It might save you a call to the refrigerator repair technician.
  1. No Power

    • Confirm that the unit still has power. Check for a tripped breaker or blown fuse and reset or replace if necessary. This can happen if there has been a power surge in the home. Also check the temperature setting, which is located on the refrigerator side. Look to confirm that it did not get moved to “Off” by accident. The ice maker has its own power button. You can find it in the freezer section where the ice maker is located. Confirm that the switch points to the “On” position.

    Warm Freezer

    • If the power has been out or your GE Profile is newly installed, it will not make ice immediately. This is because it cannot make ice if the freezer is too warm. This can also happen if the freezer door is opened repeatedly throughout the day. It takes the freezer a full 24 hours to cool enough to be able to produce ice. Wait to see if the ice maker resumes production once the freezer cools down.

    Blockage

    • Ice itself can be the cause of an ice maker that is not working. If you have ice piled up too high in the ice cube bin, it can prevent the ice maker from making any additional ice. Redistribute any piled-up ice to resume production. An ice cube may also be stuck in the ice maker, preventing it from working. Use a wooden or plastic utensil to dislodged any ice that is stuck. Once you do this, the ice maker should resume ice production.

    Water Supply Problem

    • If you are having problems with your water supply, it can result in no ice. Test the water supply by turning on the faucets in your home to see if you are getting any water out of them. If not, you should contact your water provider. If you do have water, you may still have a supply problem, but it may be limited to the connection to the freezer. Unless you are experienced with basic appliance repairs, you should contact a GE-authorized service technician to assist you.
