How to Replace a Dented Refrigerator Door

Unplug the refrigerator's power cord, or turn off the power from the home's circuit breaker panel. Clear out the food storage bins inside the refrigerator door.

Remove any covers from the top hinge, if applicable to your refrigerator. The hinges on some models have plastic caps to hide the screws. Pry these caps off with the end of a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the screws and lift the top hinge up to pull the pin out of the door. If your stainless steel refrigerator has a freezer compartment on top, lift the freezer door straight up to remove it from the middle hinge. Remove the screws and middle hinge.

Pull the refrigerator door off the bottom hinge pin and set it aside. Ask an assistant to help you lift the door if it is too large for you to safely handle alone.

Lift the replacement door straight up and set it on the lower hinge pin. Skip to the next step if you have a side-by-side or freezerless model. For freezer-on-top models, place the middle hinge on top of the refrigerator door and tighten the screws. Set the freezer door on top of the middle hinge.

Line up the top hinge's pin with the hole in the top of the refrigerator or freezer door. Tighten the screws to secure the hinge and replace any covers you removed earlier. Open and close the door a few times to test its movement.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet, or turn on the circuit breaker switch to restore power to the refrigerator. Replace any food items you removed from the interior storage bins.
