Warming Issues With the GE Profile Side by Side

A GE Profile side by side unit has a door for the refrigerator on one side and a separate door for the freezer on the other side. While you own the unit, you may encounter a problem with one or both sides being too warm. Warming issues are common problems, which you can troubleshoot with no appliance repair expertise.
  1. New Installation

    • When you first install your GE Profile refrigerator, it needs time to cool down. It takes a total of 24 hours for the new appliance to completely cool down. This is true for both the refrigerator and the freezer side of the unit. You also need to leave the doors closed for this entire time period. If not, it will take longer than 24 hours for it to get cool.

    Temperature Controls

    • Both temperature controls for the refrigerator and freezer are located on the refrigerator side. Find them inside at the top once you open the door. It is possible that the factory preset cool settings have been changed, resulting in a warming problem. The preset temperatures are 0°F for the freezer and 37°F for the refrigerator. Press the “Colder” button for each side to lower the temperature.

    Frequent Door Openings

    • If you open your freezer or refrigerator door a lot, it can result in the unit getting too warm inside. This is because opening the doors lets in the room temperature air and releases the cool air. Doing this frequently throughout the day not only releases the cool air, but makes it difficult for the unit to cool the warmer air that has gotten in. Reducing both the number of times you open the doors in a day and the length of time you hold them open will help with the warming problem.

    Obstruction

    • When you close your freezer and refrigerator door, feel around the seal to determine if any cold air is coming out. You may have something on one side that is obstructing the door and leaving it slightly ajar. The door may appear to be closed except for this area. If you discover this is the case, rearrange the items on that side so that the door can close fully.
