Troubleshooting for GE Water Filter Cartridge Removal

Foul-tasting water and ice may be an indication of an old water filter cartridge in your GE refrigerator. This cartridge requires replacement every six months in order to eliminate odors. It also affects the quality of water and ice cubes produced by the ice and water dispenser. Careful installatiion of the cartridge is essential to prevent permanent damage to the refrigerator. A damaged water filter voids the warranty and is a costly yet preventable mistake.       Flip open the grille compartment located at the top of the refrigerator. Turn the old cartridge counterclockwise to carefully unscrew the filter cartridge from the fridge's cartridge holder.

      Throw the old cartridge in the garbage, and turn on the cool water faucet on your kitchen sink. Place the new cartridge underneath the running water to fill it with tap water.

      Place the new filter cartridge's line indicator in line with the line on the fridge's cartridge holder.

      Turn the filter cartridge to the right or clockwise to secure it to the refrigerator. The water filter cartridge stays in place when it is properly secured to the cartridge holder.

      Push a cup against the water dispenser on the front of the refrigerator. Fill the cup with water for 3 minutes to filter the new cartridge, and press "Reset Filter" on the refrigerator's front control panel for three seconds to complete the removal and replacement process.
