How to Replace a Door Seal for a KitchenAid KSSS42QDX05

The KitchenAid KSSS42QDX05 is a side-by-side refrigerator, designed for installation in a residential kitchen. Both the freezer and fresh food compartment doors have a gasket that surrounds the entire perimeter of the door. The gasket is made of rubber, and forms an airtight seal when the door is closed. The seal ensures that the air inside of the refrigerator cannot escape. As the gasket ages, it may break or crack, at which point you must replace it with a new one. There are several screws that secure the gasket to the door, and when loosened, the gasket is quickly removed.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door containing the gasket that you would like to replace.

    • 2

Peel the inner portion gasket away from the door liner, toward the outer perimeter of the door to reveal the screws below the gasket.

    • 3

Loosen each screw one-quarter of a turn around the perimeter of the entire gasket.

    • 4

Pull the gasket out from behind the door liner, and then remove the gasket from the door.

    • 5

Align the new gasket with the door, and then tuck the rear lip of the gasket between the door and the door liner.

    • 6

Tighten the screws around the perimeter of the door to secure the liner in place.
