How to Change Refrigerator Condensers

Your home refrigerator is composed of myriad internal components. One found on all refrigerators -- and one the fridge can't do without -- is the condenser fan, which cools the evaporative coils drawing heat from the fridge and allow it to remain cool. If you hear a loud humming noise coming from the rear of the refrigerator, the condenser is likely broken and needs to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the refrigerator from its power source. Move it away from the wall so you have access to the panel on the bottom of the back of the fridge.

    • 2

Remove all screws holding the panel in place and remove the panel to locate a large metal box covering the condenser assembly.

    • 3

Take out the screws on the box, then remove the box to expose the condenser fan and motor assembly.

    • 4

Unplug the wiring running to the ports in the condenser assembly.

    • 5

Take out the screws on the condenser assembly and remove the assembly.

    • 6
