Before you do anything else, make sure the leak from your water dispenser is not user error related. Remember that you generally have to hold your cup or container under the water dispenser for about two to three seconds after you push the button to catch all of the water. If you move it earlier, it may seem like the unit is leaking. Also, it’s normal for the unit to release a drop or two after the dispensing is over as the water valve is closed.
The location of the water lines can vary depending on your refrigerator model, so check your owner's manual. Examine each line for punctures and holes. Also check that the lines are installed properly and create an airtight seal at the connections. If there are any problems, you may need to replace some of the tubing. You can order replacements through KitchenAid’s website.
When you first install your KitchenAid refrigerator, there may be air in the water lines. Air pressure can cause water to spurt or leak out of the water lines, including the one that leads to your water dispenser. The solution is to put a large container under your water dispenser and press the button for five seconds to allow the water and air to clear the line. Release the dispenser for five seconds and then repeat. Do this until you’ve flushed four gallons of water through the line and then use your dispenser as desired.
Some KitchenAid water dispensers come with a water filter option. An indicator light appears on the control panel when the filter needs to be replaced. Replacing the filter is a simple procedure but many owners forget to flush the lines to prepare the new filter for use, causing water to dispense from the unit irregularly. Flushing the lines just means placing a large container under the water dispenser while alternating between pressing the button for five seconds and letting it rest for five seconds until you’ve run about four gallons through the system.
