How to Change a Frigidaire Freezer Door Gasket

All fridges, including those made by Frigidaire, have rubber gaskets that run along the inside edge of the freezer and fridge doors. These gaskets help create a seal between the inside of the door opening and the door itself. If the gaskets begin to fall off, get torn or crack, this can lead to cooling problems. As the gasket fails, cool air leaks out. This means the fridge has to run more often to maintain a stable cooling temperature. Gasket replacement prevents this problem.

Open the freezer door. Remove perishable food items and, place them in another freezer or cooler.

    • 2

Grasp the underside of the top section of the rubber gasket. Pull the top of the gasket upward and hold in place.

    • 3

Loosen the hex nut screws under the rubber gasket. Move along the sides of the door lifting the gasket as you go along. Loosen the screws as you move along. Do not remove the screws entirely.

    • 4

Line up the new gasket. Start on one of the top edges of the door. Maneuver the lip of the gasket underneath the metal retainer attached to the inside of the door.

    • 5

Move along the entire edge of the door pushing the gasket lip under the metal retainer until the gasket is in place.

    • 6

Lift the gasket up gently, and tighten the nut screws. Run your hand over the gasket surface to make sure it's tightly in place. Shut and open the door a few times to ensure a proper seal is made.
