If your Side by Side refrigerator is new, it will not freeze immediately. After installation, you have a waiting period before the freezer is ready to freeze your food. You must let the freezer cool for 24 hours before you can use it. During that 24-hour period, you should not open the door at any time so it will be ready once the specified time has passed.
The refrigerator side of the unit is home to the temperature controls for both sides. Open the door and look at the top for the digital temperature panel. The factory preset for the freezer side is 0 degrees F. Confirm that the temperature setting has not been changed accidentally. If so, press the “Colder” button on the “Adjust Freezer Temp” side of the control panel. You will need to give the freezer time to reach the new temperature before it is ready to freeze. The time needed varies depending on the change in setting. You may also need to lower the temperature, even if it is at the preset, if you are experiencing warm weather.
Frequently opening the door of the freezer can make it too warm. When it is too warm in the freezer, it will not freeze your food properly. Reducing the number of times you are opening the freezer door will address this problem. You should also reduce the length of time you have the door open when you do open it. You may also be making the freezer too warm if something is obstructing the freezer door from shutting and sealing completely. You can diagnose this by feeling around the seal of the freezer door for escaping cold air. If you discover escaping air, open the freezer and redistribute items that may be in the way of the door closing.
On the refrigerator side of the unit is a control panel for both the freezer and the refrigerator. On this control panel is an “Off” button for each side. If the “Off” button is pressed for the freezer side, it will not freeze or cool but the refrigerator side will continue to cool. If you notice the display panel for the freezer side displays “Off,” power on that side to get it freezing again. This is done by pushing the “Colder” button on the freezer side twice, which sets it to freeze at the factory preset temperature. It can take as long as 24 hours to cool the freezer enough for it to freeze food.
