How to Disassemble the Front of a Kenmore Refrigerator

Kenmore appliances are owned by Sears and are manufactured by third-party companies, such as Frigidaire and Whirlpool. Many Kenmore refrigerators have an ice-and-water dispenser located on the refrigerator’s front. The ice-and-water dispenser has several moving parts. If it breaks, remove the dispenser’s front panel to make repairs.
  1. Safety First

    • Before beginning repairs on your refrigerator, disconnect the refrigerator's power source and water supply. To gain access to both the power cord and the water supply valve, move the refrigerator away from the wall. With the refrigerator away from the wall, unplug the power cord and turn the water supply valve clockwise until it is tight. This shuts off the water supply.

    Drip Tray

    • Regardless of the true manufacturer of the refrigerator, remove the drip tray from the dispenser before removing the cover. The drip tray is located at the dispenser’s bottom and catches any water or ice that spills from the dispenser. To remove the drip try, pull it toward you and out of the dispenser housing.

    Frigidaire Models

    • Kenmore refrigerators manufactured by Frigidaire use screws securing the dispenser’s front panel to the dispenser housing. They are located at the bottom of the panel and are accessible when the drip tray removed. Once the screws are removed, lift up on the front panel and pull it away.

    Whirlpool Models

    • Refrigerators manufactured by Whirlpool do not use screws securing the dispenser’s front panel of the dispenser in place. Instead, one or two slots are placed on the bottom of the front panel. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into each slot, and then gently pry the dispenser's front panel away from the dispenser housing. Use care that the refrigerator's finish is not damaged by the flat-head screwdriver.
