How to Adjust Water Pressure on a Refrigerator Dispensor

Refrigerators that have built-in water dispensers rely on steady water pressure to operate properly. Refrigerator water lines are only about 1/4-inch in diameter, making them susceptible to kinks in the line. Kinks can greatly reduce the water pressure within the refrigerator system. Another possible cause of low water pressure to your water dispenser is that the supply valve is not fully open. Both of these problems can be fixed with minimal tools and a basic knowledge about plumbing.

  Pull the refrigerator back from against the wall. Give yourself enough room to access the back area of the refrigerator.

  Illuminate the back of the refrigerator with a flashlight and look for the water supply line that sticks out from the bottom or side of the appliance.

  Follow the line from the refrigerator to the wall, looking for signs of any kinks or sharp bends in the line. Straighten any kinks as you go.

  Locate the water supply valve in the wall near the refrigerator. Turn the valve handle counterclockwise as far as possible to open up the connection all the way. You may need to use pliers to turn small T-handle valves.

  Slide the refrigerator back against the wall, taking care not to pinch the water line as you go. It may be helpful to have someone else watch the water line as you move the refrigerator back into place.
