Heat on the Sides of My Frigidaire Freezer With No Cooling

Heat on the exterior sides of a Frigidaire freezer is normal and nothing to be concerned about. However, if the interior sides of the freezer are warm and it does not appear to be cooling or freezing, you might have a temperature problem in the freezer. You can troubleshoot on your own to diagnose the cause of the problem and determine if the appliance needs servicing.
  1. Newly Installed

    • If your appliance is new, it will not immediately or quickly be cool in the freezer. Instead, the freezer has to cool down and adjust, which takes 24 hours. If you open the freezer door to check the temperature during this 24-hour period, it takes even longer for the freezer to cool.

    Temperature Set Too Warm

    • In the refrigerator portion of the unit, you can find the digital temperature control panel. If the temperature is set too warm, you have a freezer with warm sides that is not cooling. Use the up and down arrows on the “Freezer Temp” side of the control panel to adjust the temperature in the freezer. The warmest setting is 1 with 9 being the coldest. The factory preset for the freezer is 6.

    Cooling System Off

    • If your refrigerator portion also is warm, the cooling system may be powered off on the unit. The power control is located on the digital temperature control panel. If you look at the control panel and it is off, press the “on/off” button under “cooling system” to power it back on.

    Blocked Vents

    • Air moves between the refrigerator and the freezer through vents on the walls that divide the two portions. If food blocks those vents on either side, it can result in the freezer getting too warm and not cooling. Move any items that are up against the wall and blocking the vents to get it cool in the freezer again.

    Flashing Temperature Display

    • If you look at the temperature control panel and notice the temperature is flashing, you have a more serious problem. This occurs when a performance problem has been detected in the appliance. Frigidaire recommends consulting with a qualified Frigidaire service technician so the internal failure can be diagnosed and fixed.
