The Freezer in My KitchenAid Superba Refrigerator Is Not Working

The KitchenAid Superba is a side by side consumer refrigerator that has a freezer on the left and refrigerator on the right. As you use the appliance, it's possible to encounter problems with the freezer while the refrigerator side works perfectly. When problems with the freezer side arise, you can troubleshoot them on your own, which can save a potentially costly repair bill.
  1. New Unit

    • When you connect the refrigerator in your home for the first time, wait for it to cool before the freezer works. KitchenAid recommends waiting at least 24 hours for the unit to cool to the proper temperature. You should not open the doors to check the temperature during that period or you will prolong the time needed to cool the freezer. For ice production, you must wait 72 hours after installation.

    Temperature Setting

    • The temperature setting for the freezer may be off, incorrect or too warm. If any of these are the cause of your problem, you can fix them on the temperature control panel. The power “on/off” button controls both the refrigerator and freezer. If both sides are warm and not working, push this button to get the power on. For a freezer with electronic controls, the warmest setting is “1” while the coldest is “7.” Press the arrow button to change the selection if it is too warm in the freezer. The default setting is “4.” For digital controls, press the “+” button for warmer and the “-” button for colder. The actual temperature setting is displayed on the digital control panel. The default is 0 degrees F. It can take up to 12 hours for the setting change to fully take effect.

    Air Vents Blocked

    • If you have items in the refrigerator that are flush up against the wall by the freezer, you may be preventing air from entering the freezer. Air vents are located on the wall shared by the refrigerator and freezer. These air vents move cold air between the two sides. When the vents get blocked, it can result in the freezer getting too warm and not working. Removing items away from the wall will solve this problem.

    Icemaker Not Working

    • If your icemaker is not working, check to see if it is on. The wire arm should be in the down position for it to be on. If it is raised up, push it down. Ice may be obstructing the arm so that no additional ice can be made. If this is your problem, use a plastic or wooden utensil to dislodge the ice.
