Removing the Water Line From the Door on a Maytag Refrigerator

The Maytag refrigerator's water line provides water to the appliance's ice maker and water dispenser, and can be turned off when the refrigerator is inactive for an extended period to prevent mildew buildup. The water line connects to the water supply on the back of the refrigerator and includes a shutoff valve to interrupt water flow from the water line to the refrigerator's door. Once disabled, the refrigerator halts water dispensing and takes up to 24 hours to stop ice production.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Maytag refrigerator's power cord from the power outlet and carefully rotate the refrigerator to access its back.

    • 2

Turn the water shutoff valve to the right to disable the water connection. The shutoff valve is located on the water pipe near the refrigerator.

    • 3

Locate your home's main water supply and turn off the water.

    • 4

Turn the compression nut located on the copper tubing counterclockwise with the adjustable wrench. The wrench loosens the refrigerator's connection and allows you to unscrew the compression nut with your fingers once initially loosened.

    • 5

Pull the copper tubing off of the shutoff valve to remove the water connection. Plug the refrigerator's power cord into the power outlet and push the water dispenser on the front of the refrigerator's door to drain the water.

    • 6

Open the refrigerator's left door and pull the ice storage bin's cover up and forward. Lift the storage bin's shutoff arm and pull the storage bin up and out. Dispose of the storage bin's ice in the sink and insert the storage bin back onto the door.

    • 7

Restore your home's main water supply.
