Troubleshooting a Leaking GE Ice Maker

A leaking ice maker in your GE refrigerator is a result of either a loose water line fitting or an unlevel refrigerator that causes the ice maker to drip water into the dispenser's drain tray or onto your floor. The water line cycles water to the ice maker, which then generates ice and stores it in the storage bin. A loose fitting on the water line causes water to appear near the back of the refrigerator, while an unleveled refrigerator causes water to appear near the front of the appliance.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the water line connected to the refrigerator, and turn the shutoff valve to the right to turn off the water. The shutoff valve protrudes from the water line and has a T-shaped valve that is used to open and close the water supply.

    • 2

Turn the compression nut connected to the shutoff valve to the right to tighten it. Secure the compression nut by half-turning it with a wrench or pair of pliers.

    • 3

Locate the four leveling legs on the bottom of the refrigerator. Turn the hex nut on the leg counterclockwise to lower the refrigerator's leg. Or, turn the hex nut clockwise to raise the refrigerator's leg.

    • 4

Place the leveling device on top of the refrigerator to detect the appliance's proper balance. Continue adjusting the leveling legs until the ball or bubble in the leveling device slides to the middle of the device's tube. Center placement of the bubble or ball indicates the refrigerator is leveled.

    • 5

Turn the water shutoff valve counterclockwise to open the water line and restore water to the ice maker.
