The KitchenAid Superba Ice Maker Is Not Turning

The KitchenAid Superba refrigerator has an ice maker that is designed to produce two to three batches of ice in a 24-hour period. However, a number of problems may cause the ice maker to cease functioning. If simple troubleshooting remedies don't solve the problem, call a service technician.
  1. New Refrigerator

    • Allow the KitchenAid Superba refrigerator 24 hours after installation to begin to operate and make ice. Check to ensure that the ice maker is on. A switch on the side of the machine has an ON/OFF button. Push the button up to turn the ice maker on. Some models may have a wire, rather than a switch. Push the wire arm into the ON position.

    Ice Bin

    • The ice maker has an automatic sensor that determines when the storage bin is full. If the bin is full of ice, the ice maker will not turn or produce new ice. If the ice bin is not properly aligned, the auger may not turn. Remove the ice bin and slide it in again on its rails until you hear a click. Turn the auger counterclockwise to align the ice bin with the auger drive.

    Blockages

    • If ice gets jammed in the ejector arm, the auger will not turn to produce new ice. Carefully remove jammed ice with a plastic spoon or spatula. Once the ice is dislodged, the ice maker should begin turning again. Ensure that the door is tightly closed and sealed because the ice maker won't operate if it is open even a bit. Avoid storing items on top of the ice maker or in the ice bin, which can also signal the ice maker to halt production.

    Temperature

    • Use a refrigerator thermometer to check the temperature inside the freezer. The optimal temperature for automatic ice making in the refrigerator is between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit. The ice maker may not turn or produce ice when temperatures rise above 10 degrees.
