Clicking Noise on a Kenmore Coldspot

Ice Maker

• If your Kenmore Coldspot model comes with a built-in ice maker, it makes various sounds while it operates. After the water fills in the mold and freezes, the unit transfers the ice into the bin. As the ice leaves the mold, you may hear a clicking or cracking sound. Depending on your model, you may hear this sound once or twice during a 24 hour period.

Automatic Defrost

• The Coldspot refrigerator line also has an automatic defrost cycle. Instead of building up a layer of frost in the freezer, the unit heats the frost and transfers the water to a drip pan under the unit. You may hear a clicking sound each time the automatic defrost cycle starts and stops. How often you hear it will depend on your model and the state of your freezer compartment.

Compressor

• A clicking noise can also come from your compressor. The compressor in your Coldspot refrigerator compresses ammonia gas and, as it expands, the gas cools while a fan circulates the cold air. Your compressor cycles on and off to stabilize the temperature in your unit. The compressor and fan sometimes make clicking noises as they try to keep the temperature cooler.
