Frigidaire Compact Refrigerator Is Not Running

Frigidaire was formed when General Motors bought the Guardian Frigerator Company in 1918 and renamed it. The company has been mass producing and distributing refrigerators ever since. There have been many innovations in refrigeration technology since that time, and one of them was the production of the mini-fridge for dorm rooms and other places with limited space. If your Frigidaire compact fridge stops running, troubleshoot it to see if it starts working again.
  1. Verify the Power

    • Just because the fridge is plugged in does not mean it is getting adequate power. Check the plug to make sure it is tightly inserted into the outlet. If the plug is loose, it might not be getting electricity from the wall. Test the outlet itself to make sure it is working by plugging a lamp or another device into it. If the outlet isn't working, check your breaker box to make sure everything is turned on properly. If the fridge is plugged into the same circuit as other appliances or devices, the circuit might be overloading and causing the breaker to shut off.

    Check the Thermostat

    • The thermostat controls the fridge, and the fridge won't run if the thermostat is either off or set at a warmer setting. It is usually a dial inside the fridge; the higher the number it is set at, the colder the fridge should be. Turn the thermostat all the way up to see if the fridge turns on or gets colder over the next few hours. If the fridge still doesn't work, the thermostat itself may be faulty and require a replacement.

    Clean the Coils

    • The fridge can't function well without proper airflow because its coils transfer heat from inside the fridge to the outside so the inside of the fridge is cooler. If the coils are caked in dust that insulates them against the air, the fridge won't function properly. In extreme cases, the motor will overheat from exertion and burn out. Move the fridge away from the wall to make sure air is getting to the coils. Wipe down the coils with a damp rag to remove any dust or debris. They should be cleaned monthly to keep the fridge running properly for a longer period.

    Contact Frigidaire

    • If the fridge still isn't working, contact Frigidaire at 800-944-9044 in the United States and 800-265-8352 if you're in Canada. The company is now owned by Electrolux International so you may hear that name mentioned when your call is answered. Explain the problem and see what advice is given. Your fridge may still be under warranty if you got it recently and haven't damaged it in any way. A customer service representative can help you decide on an appropriate course of action to either get your fridge working again or to replace it outright.
